    GRANDMOTHER'S CHOICE 1 Grandmother's Choice - Barrister's Block

So I’m more than a little bit behind with these blocks, considering the last few are being posted now on the website.  It’s my aim this week to catch up a little.  I’ll be doing them with triple sashing, in green and red homespun, unless it looks horrible.  And if that happens, I don’t know what I’ll do with it.  I’m going to make 56 blocks (seven rows by eight rows).

This past week has been fairly hectic.  I’m hoping to have some time up my sleeve this week to make a dent in my quilting room.  I’ve got so many projects started and I feel very disjointed and unsettled.  I think by finishing a few of them I might start to feel a bit more inspired.

We shall see.

Grandmother’s Choice (again)

I’m on a roll this week.  I’ve been really well behaved in doing the housework and for the first time in about two years I have an empty ironing basket.  The dishes are done, the washing is folded.  I’ve been trying to do this routine ever since the little ones were both back at school and I think (finally) I may have nailed it.

So I celebrated my domestic goddess-ness by sewing another block.

c

This one is number 31 - Tinted Chains.

I got sick of trying to find relevant greens and reds from the almost toppling over pile of reproductions that I have, so I spent some time sorting them out yesterday.  Now I have a big pile of them, and my plan is to catch up to date this next month.  I’ve got probably about another ten or fifteen to go, so I think I may be able to cross this one off my to-do list also!

Till tomorrow,

Grandmother’s Choice–a couple more blocks

After my great spurt of energy on Saturday, I got the opportunity to make a couple more of Grandmother’s Choice blocks.  It didn’t hurt that these ones were really easy, I knocked them off after a couple of hours.

I’ve never been a lover of the Rail Fence block.  Isn’t it funny how some blocks we make over and over, and others just leave us cold?  It probably explains why I make the same quilts over and over, just in different colours.

I hope you’re all doing okay – it’s gloriously Autumn here where I live, cold nights and sunny days – just perfect.

Till tomorrow,

Grandmother’s Choice 37 & 38

So I’m so far behind on these blocks it isn’t funny, but I did manage to make two today!

Yay me!

Week 37

Could not be an easier block.  Other people were much cleverer by putting little blocks inside their centre block, but not me.  This is what our homework was, so this is what I made.  It’s week 37, by the way.

Week 38.

Shushhhh….. just between you and me I actually am quite proud of this one.  This is week 38.  I just by chance happened to get Judie Rothermal’s latest range in the post and it was filled with reds and greens.  Serendipity.

I think I’ve made seventeen blocks.  I am so far behind.

Till tomorrow,

More Show And Tell

I’ve been plodding along slowly on my Grandmother’s Choice blocks, and photographed them all to show.  I just got a new parcel of reproductions so I have some more delicious reds and greens to add to the mix.  I’m so far away from being caught up with these that it’s not funny but at the end of the day, that doesn’t really bother me.  These are in no particular order, because to be in order would mean that the blogger is organised  - and you know me well enough by now to understand how that isn’t likely!

And the fifteen I have completed, all together.

It is quite funny really just how much the fabric changes colour with photography and computer variances.  Some look like they don’t really go together, but they do – truly.

If I have a clear run, I may sew another block tomorrow.  But I’m treating myself to a hair cut and colour, and I doubt I’ll be home all day!  Oh the life of a mother with two children at school.  Pure Bliss!

Till tomorrow,

Grandmother’s Choice–Ocean Waves block

I had a little time to myself this afternoon, and got caught up to date with this week’s Grandmother’s Choice block.  I’m still miles behind on all the other ones, but I can cross this week’s off the agenda.

Image

Very pleased with it, though some of the ones on the flickr page were a lot more adventurous in their colour choices than I and looked really pretty.  I need to try stepping out of my comfort zone a bit more, I think.

It’s been a hectic week here.  We have a sick child, another one threatening to go out in sympathy, not much sleep and yesterday we went to a wedding (which was just beautiful) by the river.  Temps yesterday were over 100 F so we sweltered.  But, as I said many times, at least I didn’t have a three piece suit on like the groom, or a heavily embroidered lace dress like the bride! (who looked supermodel gorgeous, by the way).

We get a day off our schedules tomorrow due to our annual Adelaide Cup day (horse race for those who have never heard of it).   Hopefully everyone will sleep a little later than usual!

I won’t hold my breath though.

Happy quilting!

Have I shown you this yet?

IMG_0949

Oh I don’t know if I have or not.  I found this picture in my drafts folder, so I assume I haven’t.  Somehow I’ve managed to disorganise my blog as much as I’ve disorganised the rest of my household and who knows where I’m up to??

But in case you haven’t seen it already, or if you’re new, or if I haven’t actually posted it before, this is (obviously) another one of my Grandmother’s Choice blocks.  Up close and personal its flaws are glaringly obvious, at least to me but overall it’s not too bad.  I’m really pleased with the overall effect of these blocks together.  I was going to choose a standard scrappy look, but at the last minute I decided to stick to Red/Green/Cream.  And so far it’s coming along beautifully.

This one is block number three, Union Square.  I chose to make mine more than one colour, again sticking with the red/greens.

I’ve made a few new blocks since my grand declaration of finishing it this year.  Technology is getting up my nose at the moment and the camera card is being a right princess, so I can’t transfer any photos over.  Makes blogging v.v. hard.

I shall perservere with it, and hopefully my very minor technical skills might fix the problem.  We can but try!

Till tomorrow,

Grandmother’s Choice

So last time I posted this photo:

IMG_1386

I had only done nine blocks, out of twenty five.  Yay me.

It is on my list of projects to be finished in 2013.  Or if not finished, at least to have a jolly good dent made in it.

So that’s what I’ve been doing.  I’ve decided it’s just too messy to keep getting the red/green/cream repros out of my repro box (es) and so I’ve dug up the whole lot, they are all sitting on my table and I’m just gonna work hard at getting it all done!.

To that end, I present:

Block no. 25, The Carrie Nation Quilt from Grandmothers Choice blog.

Loving this one sick.  Can you see how the fussy cut red squares form a little butterfly in the join?  Totally randomly done, but sweet!

I’ve made a few more this weekend, and I shall present them to you another day.  I’m trying very hard to post more than once a week, though that seems all I can manage at the moment.

All these kids wanting feeding.  There’d be so much more time for quilting if they didn’t want to eat.

Till tomorrow,

Suzie

(p.s. – I can see I’ve had a mini explosion of followers lately – I’m so glad to see new faces here!  Please let me know where you’re from!)
