Not that you’d notice up there, with all the great swathes of ‘yet to be done’ spaces, but I’ve made another Dear Jane block.

FullSizeRender (3)

This one is A12 Framed Fancy.  I have one more to do on this row and then I can say I have finished One. Whole. Row.

I’m having a massive ‘Why did I start this stupid quilt, I am the world’s worst quilter’ moment right now.  I can tell you that the best way to make yourself feel completely inadequate as a quilter is to search other Dear Jane blogs to see their tutorials.  There are some quilters who are just immaculate.  I don’t know how they get their work so even.  It beggars belief how good some people are.  I foundation pieced the block above which should make everything straight and lovely, and even this block is wonky in parts.  I wonder if it’s my pressing that’s letting me down?  Maybe I don’t pay enough attention to grain line?

Not asking for help here, really – just thinking out loud.

I was telling someone that I’d only done about a dozen blocks, but I didn’t really know how many I had finished, so I got them out of banishment and counted them.  I’ve now done over forty which I must admit surprised me a great deal.  So I’ve made one more today, and perhaps I can get back on some sort of schedule with this.

We shall see.

It’s another stinker of a day today and we’ve all acted like very precious snowflakes, sitting inside all day under the airconditioner.  I hope you are all coping in the North with your very cold weather, I must admit to being slightly envious of you all.

Happy quilting!

My Blue Heaven?

Indulge me just a bit longer with this quilt layout, dear readers..

This is the original lay out for the My Blue Heaven quilt.  I figured I'd put it back up on the wall and see if it's tempting me into making it, or if I am still ambivalent about the design.

Yeah, I think I'll go with my alternate plans.  This just isn't doing it for me.

Yesterday it was 40 degrees (c).  Today it was 40 degrees (c) and now it's raining.  Whoever is in charge of the weather is having a very difficult time deciding what to do with it!

I have a big weekend stretching out in front of me including two family dinners and a birthday party.  I'll try and pop in tomorrow but if I don't, please have a lovely weekend!

Blue Star Quilt

Yeah, Blue Star Quilt is a much more interesting name than My Blue Heaven.

Not.

It's late when I'm writing this post and my brain doesn't want to work well.  But tomorrow perhaps I'll have a better name.

The blocks are coming along nicely.  Sorry again for the crappy photos, this is also what happens when you take photos with your Ipod late at night with only artificial light to help you.

I've had a - I'm not sure how best to phrase it - confounding few days just gone, and I've been feeling frustrated and over all of it.  I'm tempted to not post blog entries on those days, but then blog posts may never get written because frustrated and over it seems to be happening a bit lately.  Maybe it's the weather?  Or is there a particular planet out of alignment?  Who knows?

I'm feeling a very strong urge to pack up for a few days and go sewing on retreat.  Wouldn't that be lovely?  Somewhere with no distractions and no issues to deal with - just sewing and sewing and sewing.

But that won't happen this month at least.  I think I'll take myself off to bed, and give myself an early night.  Maybe a glass of warm Milo and a good night's sleep will fix me.

Milo = cocoa for those non Aussies out there.  But so much better.

Hope your day was upbeat and bright.

My Blue Heaven

I've been stitching along on these blocks the last few days.  I don't think it should be known as My Blue Heaven anymore.

I'll have to think of something else to call it.

So far they are coming along well and I'm sure I'll love it when it's done.

The weather is horrid right now - hot and very windy and that's always a bad combination in summer - all it takes is one spark and there'll be another bush fire somewhere.  And it makes me crabby, the wind.  I'm not really good at hot and windy.  I suppose you Northern Hemisphere peoples are having cold and wet times right now.  I'd gladly swap!

The good news is that after three weeks, I can safely say apart from the ironing that my house is Back In Order.  Yay Me!  The ironing is never ending, but at least the weight of everything else isn't crashing down on me and all I need to do in the mornings is a general straighten up.  That'll probably last till the weekend but it does mean I get all day tomorrow to sew if I straighten up quickly!

So that's my update for Wednesday.  I hope your Wednesday, whether hot and blustery or cold and windy is filled with lovely sewing and stitching plans!

I got a pressie...

Because I haven't got enough fabric!

My standing order from Judie Rothermal's Quilt Shoppe came in!

I have more Aunt Grace fabric!

And I have more Civil War fabric!

I know I have too much fabric, I really do but I get such a thrill when new fabric turns up in my mailbox!

I know you know that feeling.  Hope you've had a great quilty day!

Show And Tell

One of the best things about having little girls is that you get to make them little girly quilts.

IMG_6181

I made this one a few years ago – probably about five or six (gosh that went fast!).  I took it down off the ten year old’s wall to photograph it and put a label on it, and she gently told me maybe it didn’t need to go back anymore.  She is, after all, ten years old.  She would rather posters.  Of Boy Bands.  Like One Direction (shudder…….)

She still has two more quilts on her walls and I figure if I don’t take those ones down she probably will let me keep them there.  I am V. devious that way.

It is such a pretty quilt, this one.  I’m sure I’ve shown you before, but this is all part of my labelling/photographing/recording my quilt journey, and I especially couldn’t miss out on labelling this one.

I keep telling my husband we should have another baby so I can make more baby quilts, but as my girls keep telling me ‘You are too old, Mum!’.

Ah well.  Wishful thinking, I guess.

Till tomorrow

A few more fete ideas

As promised, I found a few more tutorials online that would work really well for fete/trading table ideas.

I’ve spent this very hot (40dec c) day on a houseboat, supervising eight ten year old girls at a swimming party.  They were impeccably behaved, but I am exhausted, so if you’ll all excuse me, I’m going to give myself an early night!

Some links to share

I have a Facebook account under my real name, and whilst I rarely post things on there, I like to sit and watch what the rest of the world is doing.  My Facebook account used to be mainly for friends and family, but as more and more businesses embrace social media I am finding more and more people/businesses to follow.

Every time I see a post/link I like, I share it on my timeline (mostly to myself, I’m not one to post publicly) and save it for Ron (aussie expression – mean’s Later On.  Ron.  Get it?).  I’d have to live to be 132 to do all the links and tutorials I find on there, but I do save them to my time line Just In Case.

Currently I’m collecting nifty things for our trading table coming up at our next Quilt Show.  I thought I might collate a few and share them with you.

Obviously my brain right now is leaning towards wallets/activity pads.  Not sure why.

Tomorrow I’ll post some more!
