Winner Winner….

So you remember this quilt?

IMG_7362

Maybe you do, maybe you don’t.  My clever mother made it.  She who is NOT traditional at all, made a very lovely, awesome traditional quilt.

Well, she entered it into the South Australian Festival Of Quilts, and it was won Runner Up Best Of Show.  And it won the Traditional Applique Quilt section. And three other ribbons.

She won five ribbons altogether and I gather she will not need a car to drive home, she will no doubt float the whole way home.

She didn’t think it was good enough to enter.  I beg to differ.  I forced her.  It’s all about me.

Awesome.

Please leave a message in the comments for Kate, my very clever mother.  I think she’s fabulous and she totally deserves this.

I’ll post tomorrow and tell you what bling she won!  Though she would be happy with just the ribbon, I think!

Till tomorrow,

Suzie

  1. Wow oh wow! I just don't have words ... I am truly speechless. I am in awe. I am so glad you forced her to enter this. Wow!

And as an EPP addict, I can't help but wonder about the size of hexies, size of quilt, how long it took her to make this.

  2. Hi Kathy,

It has over eight thousand hexies (we tried to count) and it took her on an off a couple of years. Nothing too extraordinary in time. She did work hard on it but she used glue basting which took a lot of the time away. It's all hand quilted too which took a while. My two sisters in law both want it. She has to make another one now.

    Thanks for posting!

    1. Oh excellent, it's just lovely in person. She made another one which also won something (beautiful quilt, but very much the ugly sister tonight!). I would have loved to go. Too many commitments right now but I hope you enjoy it.

  6. Perhaps she made it in a couple of years but it looks like a lifetime of work. Her talent is amazing. She has produced a simple beautiful work of art.

  9. As a "don't do anything except bindings by hand" girl, I can appreciate the work that went into this quilt. (Give me a machine anyday). Congrats to your mum, from one of the judges of the show.

    1. Hi Jude, I didn't see this post till today and I'm so sorry that I didn't reply sooner. Thanks for judging :) It must be really hard sometimes. I'm so glad that Mum's 'really lovely but perhaps not as technically correct as it could have been' quilt was looked on so favourably. She really didn't want to enter as she felt she hadn't done it 'properly'. I love the idea that you don't just pick 'the best technically' as a rule. Thanks again!
