After so many months, Grand Illusion is now done.

You’ll notice (obviously) that it’s nothing like Bonnie’s original design.  Between you and me, I didn’t love her design.  I’m not alone there.  I’ve seen many lovely interpretations of her quilt, but it wasn’t for me.  Made my head hurt, not having anywhere to lay my eyes on.

So I’ve made my own version.  I doubt she’ll mind.

I don’t mind this version now.  I’m not sure I’ll make it again and in the vast stable of Bonnie’s designs, most of which I adore, this is not one of my favourites.  But that is why we do mystery quilts, isn’t it?  We do them for the mystery.  Mostly they work for us, sometimes they don’t.  This is one that didn’t do it for me.  It’s okay.

So I’ve photographed it now, and all it needs is a label and then to go join its friends in the quilt top bag.

So how have you been?  I’ve been doing well, I think I’m on top of my work commitments and have been motoring along, finishing a few things and I will post all of that soon.  So many of my projects are almost done – in typical Suzie fashion they get a bit hard and so I put them away.  But not this week!  I’m Getting. Stuff. Done!!

Have a lovely day.

  1. Your version came out very nice. I followed Bonnie's colors, what a mistake that was. I finished it but hate it also. You did a great job

  2. With the greatest of respect to Bonnie, I think she missed the mark on this one. Or at least strayed a bit to far from her 'usual' style. But that was her quilt, and this is mine, and I don't think she would mind me doing my thing. I'm also halfway through another one of her designs which I love and my choice of colours just don't work for that either. I'm going to finish that one too and then take a deep breath before starting anything new.

  3. Great interpretation! And I agree, I just don't care for Grand Illusion ... way, way too busy. Like you said, nowhere for my eyes to rest.

    1. Thanks, Kathy!

      I keep saying I won't do the next mystery but I know I will. I know I will :)
