Mysolation Mystery Quilt Post One

A few months ago, the lovely Rachelle Denneny decided to raise money for a local children's charity by making a mystery quilt for those of us on Facebook that follow her.

South Australia was stuck in its isolation, and she aptly called the design 'Mysolation'.

I was determined to a/ make the quilt and b/keep up with the steps (seriously, what else was I going to do whilst on lockdown) and c/not buy anything, being unable to go to any shops.  They were my challenges.

I shopped my stash, as you can see.  I always have a roll of black homespun in the cupboard, and I found loads of brights - and I was set to go!

I'll show you tomorrow some of my steps!

Out and about in Adelaide

Hi lovely readers,

We recently spent some time in Adelaide, wandering around the city streets.  We are very fond of inner city Adelaide, I'm sure I've bored you with pictures before.  But I thought I'd show you some of our lovely Botanic Gardens.

It was particularly hot the day we went there, but as soon as you walked through the gardens, the temperature lowered dramatically.  It was in the middle of Covid restrictions, but there were many people out enjoying their time there.  I guess outdoors is better than indoors?

Our Botanic Gardens are at the end of North Terrace, which is where you find the University, the Library, the Museum.  All the good buildings!

The wisteria arch had passed its best, but we still enjoyed it.

Have you seen Gloria Loughman's Canopy Quilt?  Think this would make an excellent quilt.

Ivy everywhere.  I don't think Ivy is native to Australia (does anyone know?) but I know it isn't something that grows well in hot, dry South Australia, so seeing it everywhere was wonderful.

Inside the fern house.  It was hot, wet and humid but we loved it.

If I recall correctly, this massive tree is a native that the garden was built around.  Hard to believe there were so many large trees right in the middle of what is now a metropolitan area.
I don't know why I took this photo.  I'm assuming I liked the plant for our garden?  Who knows.
Maybe this pretty purple one was it?  I don't remember.  Menopause is really messing with my memory.

A lovely little cottage tucked away.  It is now the volunteers building, but it was closed due to Covid.  Was almost Hobbit like.  Of course, we loved it.

So many glorious shades of green in the world.

Some very tame rainbow lorikeets live in the garden.  They let us get remarkably close, but my camera skills are useless.  I think these lovely birds are a bit special, such vibrant colours.

And that's it, my lovely readers.  Tomorrow I'll show you the art gallery.  Hope you won't be bored.

Something different...

I have lovely family.

When I turned a special birthday a little while ago, one of my mothers in law (I have two!) gave me this embroidery she had done.

She's Hungarian by descent, and does these amazing embroideries.  They are called 'mayto', I think (I'm happy to be corrected).

This is just a small table runner, but I'm hopeful if I drop enough hints I might get a whole table cloth next year!

Whilst I call myself a crafter, one thing I've never managed is embroidery like this.  I'm lucky that I have someone who can do it for me!

leftover patches nine patch pastel

Hi Lovely Readers

Struggling a bit with this new (to me) blogger format.  I guess if I'd kept up with my daily blog entries last year I'd be used to it by now.  Forgive me if I don't reply to any comments you make, it's because I don't get notified anymore that they are there.

I've been having a cleanout of my UFO's (oh so many) and found a bag of nine patches.  I did a usual thing, made too many for another quilt and so I'll have to make a second one, you know how it goes.

Still all of this left over too.

I do love a nine patch, so it's not a chore to make another quilt from it.  I'm thinking just plain old nine patch, sashed with cream or maybe even a pastel homespun.

I shall give it some thought.

How are you guys all going?  It's a steamy day outside, but I can see the sun is shining and the wind is softly blowing, so I think I might be going outside to do some gardening later today.  And hopefully a little sewing too.

Talk to you soon!

A flimsy to show you...

Hi Lovely Readers,

I found some time today to sort through my drafts in my blogger account - whilst I don't often have the time to write every day, and I'm trying hard to change this, I often have a lot of photos that I make into drafts, and they sit there waiting for the day I have time.

But I hope this year, off the back of Covid, will be a little more slow lane than other years.  Who knows?

You may remember this quilt as it was ongoing - I had a massive stash of those brick sized pieces and I picked out all the brights and made this:

When I finished it and had it on the wall I decided it was a little too top heavy.  Too much colour at the top.

I took the top two or so layers off and put them at the bottom, and now I have a quilt I'm sure a person might like.

Tadah!

As the New Year has been, I'm once again at that time of my year when I survey all the stuff around me and wonder, what the hell I am going to do with it all, and also, what will it all look like if I keep quilting for another thirty years?

So as I reflect on that, I am more and more thinking that if I make a quilt, it'll have a place to go before I start to make it.  None of my family want any more quilts, but I think some other little people out there  might - and so I'm going to donate a lot more, I've decided.

I think I say that every year, and I have every intention to follow through with it this year, but we shall see.

It's cool and raining here today, which is weird given it's the middle of summer.  Weather can't make its mind up.  I have a pot of plum sauce on the stove, so I'm tied to the house a little, but I have all the windows open and I am enjoying the breeze.

I hope your day has been filled with quilty things.
