092 Lucy Boston Update

It's so soothing to sit and stitch a Lucy block at times like these.

It's raining outside, completely unexpectedly because the Bureau of Meteorology website that would normally tell us these things has been broken for days, with no one to fix it I assume.  What a lovely of surprises.  And it's soft and slow and all day long, which is so much better than the fast, flooding rains we've been used to.

That's my silver lining for today.  What's yours?

089 - Lucy Boston update

Another few Lucy's are done.  It's really coming along now.  In true Suzie fashion, I've kitted more than I need.  I sure as heck will not be doing another one, so I might throw the extra ones on the back.  Maybe.  What do you think?

I still have the awesomely overwhelming task of doing all the connectors, plus sew them into a quilt.  So whilst I think I've nearly finished, in reality I've got so very much more to get through.

I plod on!  This WILL be the year of finishing everything!

Do you like this one?  I do, very much.  I love blues in the Civil War fabrics.  They just pop, I think.

025 Lucy Boston update

Man, all these Lucy blocks.  Are you sick of them yet?  I'm not.  I love them.  I'll assemble a total quilt photo soon when I have a little time.

Almost at the end of school holidays.  Time sure does go fast!  Back into a routine soon enough.  We'll see if I can be as productive in February as I have been in January.  At least blogwise.

023 Lucy Boston update

Each time I finish a Lucy block, I think that this one is my favourite.  Then I do another one and THAT one becomes my favourite.  I love this one too.

Another Lucy Boston bites the dust.

Love this one.  Love blues in a quilt.  I'd make a whole Lucy Boston with just blues if it didn't make my jolly thumbs hurt.  Do you get that?  Sore thumbs from handpiecing?  Who'd have thought?

012 Lucy Boston Update

I continue to plod along with dear old Lucy.

I'm probably block 45 of 56 now.  And I'm enjoying every one.  The blues are always a favourite.  What do you think?

005 - Lucy Boston update

In times of trauma, such as this week, I quilt.  I stick my head in my sewing room like an ostrich, and I quilt.  So let me show you what I've been doing.

I've been plodding along, working on my Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses quilt.  It's coming along.  I spent a large amount of time kitting the blocks up and now they are completely portable.  The girls have changed their dance nights, meaning most times I can drop them there and come back, rather than waiting in the car which means my handwork time is decreased.  So I'm going to have to work hard on them to get them done.

Just a single block to show you today.  I can see some stitching showing through but I'm sure it'll be fine when it's done.  I enjoy them, I must admit.  I can do one in two easy nights, or one in one late night, and when pressed they look lovely.  And for a minute or two, it's okay to forget the awful stuff.

Lucy Boston - an update!

A few weeks ago, I posted some blocks from the Lucy Boston quilt we are working on for our Raffle Quilt.

I'm pleased to say that we are now finished, and it's spectacular!










It was expertly quilted by my clever mum, and all that we have to do now is sell a million tickets.  Easy peasy!

I've never brought tickets in our own raffles before but I'm definitely going to do it this time!

Lucy Boston block two

I'm forcing myself to sit still and concentrate on my craft for a while.  I have time today to do just that so I've been playing around with my Lucy Boston block.

I'm blogging on my phone which is really hard edit wise so forgive the out of place photos.  I'm trying to work out which arrangement I like the most.

I think I'm going to go for the middle one.  What do you think?

You know, people (technology companies) seem to be determined to steer us away from traditional computers.  Maybe I'm just being an old fart but I really dislike doing anything on a tablet other than surfing and watching tv.  And don't get me started on this phone business.  How anyone can type on them is beyond me.

Bah humbug.  I'm going for block number two.  That's decided.

Lucy Boston - Block One

Despite it being school holidays, and ten days or so away from Christmas, I have been able to sew in small pockets here and there.  And slowly but surely, I achieved one block!

I still need to buy some fabric for the background and cornerstones, but I don't want to get that online.  I think it's too iffy and I need enough to do a whole quilt.  Best to see it in person.

It's really not a bad effort for my first go, and I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Today's tutorial is not the easiest - no real instructions are given but I have always liked a challenge.  It has all the measurements there, and lots of photos, but I'm assuming more than a little sewing knowledge would be required.

It's a hot one today and we have already done our outside chores for the day, so while the little ones are watching a movie, I'm sneaking into the sewing room for half an hour.  Can't wait!
