Sunday Show And Tell

Hello my friends.

Absolutely no chance of sewing today, so I thought I’d show you a little bit of show and tell.

This was a kit we sold many years ago in our shop.  I haven’t a clue who designed it – if you know please tell me and I’ll be pleased to give them credit.  But it’s a real cutie.

As you can see, the blocks are relevant to a US season with Fourth of July and snowmen.  Not too many snow men in Australia.  But we loved the little stitcheries and the kit sold really well.

So there you go.  Hope you enjoyed that little bit of show and tell.  I must do some stitchery again.  It’s been years!

Some show and tell

I can’t lay claim to this divine quilt.  Believe it or not, this is one of the first quilts that this particular member of our quilt group has made.  It’s all blanket stitched in single thread, and all the embroidery is just picture perfect.

My mother quilted it.  Her quilting has turned into quite the industry for her.  Everyone asks me when I will take it up but why should I, when I have her to do it for me!  But seriously, it’s not my cup of tea at the moment and I doubt I’d have the patience to do anyone else’s designs.  Patience is not my virtue at the moment.

It’s amazing how washed out a camera can make things.  This was taken with my little one which really doesn’t work brilliantly at night.  All those colours do actually go together when they are in the quilt – it’s just my photography making it look not so good.  If I’d taken my big camera, I think I’d be much happier.  But it’s such a heavy piece of equipment.

It was a lovely quilt, very very girly but very pretty.  A real joy to see.

Sunday afternoon

I’m trying to start a new habit, it being the first week of the year and all.  I spend a lot of time taking photos, and I’m paranoid about the camera/laptop dying and me not saving Every. Single. Photo I’ve ever taken.  I’ve had a Picasa account for a million years, but since they sold it to Google and Google totally wrecked it (why, Google?  Why do you take a perfectly good programme and kill it?)so now I’m also dipping my foot in the Flickr pool too.

Each month I empty my camera onto my laptop, make a folder for the month and once a month, upload them onto Picasa.  Or Flickr now.  Hopefully they’ll all get transferred, and I won’t get confused.

Of course this makes it easy to see new stuff I haven’t blogged about.  Which is my long winded way of telling you I have more show and tell.

Not sure if you remember me discussing our group’s Christmas swap?  We all had to do a block holder, and I did a lovely pink number (I’ve posted a photo of it below).  The above one was one that Mum received (she had been touring overseas and couldn’t collect it herself), and I think it’s just lovely. 

And this lovely one above I am lucky enough to call mine.  I think the original maker did a fantastic job and I’m already using it.

Just to refresh your memory, this one was the one I designed – all very pink and girly so I do hope a pink and girly person got it.  I couldn’t go to the Christmas dinner where they were swapped so didn’t see the recipient’s face.  Hope it was a happy surprise for her.

I’ve been told that the whole swap was received excellently well, so that sure is nice to hear.

Hello from hot, steamy Australia

It's hot again.  I shouldn't complain.  It is Summer, after all.

My littlest person is sick.  Almost take-to-the-hospital sick.  At least she was last night.  Our local hospital doesn't do emergency at night so I would have had to drive a long way to the nearest one if I had taken her.  Any worse and I would have, but thankfully she came good and whilst still a little slow on the couch today, lots of hugs from mummy and more than one icipole later she's a lot more sparkier.

So there was no sewing done.

Instead, some more stitched stuff.  I know you like the pictures.

I've done so many cross stitches over the years.  Very little of it is framed though.  I don't think I'd have the wall space for framing them all.
